Legacies, or gifts left to us by people in their wills, are a very valuable source of income and a wonderful way to help ensure our work can continue in the future. Do you own shares that are not worth keeping but not worth selling either?

Many people have small amounts of shares that are worth very little. Selling them and paying stockbrokers' fees can cost more than they are worth, but keeping them has ongoing tax implications. ShareGIFT, a scheme run by registered charity, The Orr Mackintosh Foundation, offers a solution that puts your unwanted shares to good use.

All you have to do is send your share certificates to the Foundation which aggregates them, sells them and then gives the proceeds to a number of UK charities, including The John Charnley Trust.

For more information about ShareGIFT, please contact The Orr Mackintosh Foundation (ShareGIFT), 46 Grosvenor Street, London W1K 3HN. Tel 020 7337 0501,

If you are a UK Taxpayer and sign up to the Gift Aid Scheme, we can reclaim the tax paid on your donation from HMRC.

Under the Gift Aid scheme, charities can reclaim an extra 25% in tax on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

This will increase the amount of your donation to The John Charnley Trust at no extra cost to yourself.

The John Charnley Trust can claim Gift Aid tax relief on every pound you give.
